Master of Sciences candidate in the Department of Geomatics Sciences, Université Laval

Muhammad Abu Bakar works at the intersection of geospatial technologies, artificial intelligence, and geographic information systems (GIS) to improve urban accessibility and inclusive mobility. His research focuses on developing data-driven solutions to support smarter, more resilient, and sustainable cities.

Convinced that citizen-generated data and geospatial intelligence can transform urban planning, Muhammad adopts an interdisciplinary approach combining natural language processing (NLP), spatial analysis, and Earth observation. His work aims to develop decision-support tools for municipalities and urban planning professionals.

His current research project explores the detection of dynamic urban mobility barriers using large language models (LLMs), with the goal of improving near-real-time accessibility mapping and promoting safer and more inclusive mobility for people with reduced mobility.
