Detours

How can we help plan and design accessible detours? This is the ambition of the Détours project, which seeks to better understand the practices of professionals in the field, in order to design a suitable tool.

Whether it's a planned development lasting several months or a one-off event, there are many obstacles in our towns and cities, and many detours. If detours affecting car traffic are frequent, so are those affecting pedestrian routes. However, the latter are often poorly communicated to the public and not very accessible to people with mobility issues.

As part of the Détours project, funded by Mitacs and Quartier de l'Innovation de Montréal, the aim is to gain a better understanding of the practices of professionals in charge of planning and designing accessible pedestrian detours. Thanks to this field knowledge, it will then be possible to design a decision-making tool adapted to the needs and practices of professionals working in the area, in order to propose more accessible alternative detours.

Ultimately, this project aims to integrate and make available information on accessible detours for people with disabilities, notably via the MobiliSIG application.
